Barcelona 4 Bayern Munich 0

LIONEL MESSI produced a dazzling display to put Jurgen Klinsmann’s Bayern to the sword.
The Argentine winger netted twice and set up another as the Spanish giants put one foot into a semi-final against Chelsea or Liverpool.

Barcelona scored all four goals in a sensational first half in the Nou Camp. And Klinsmann admitted: “It shows that we’ve still got a lot of work to do to be in Europe’s top four.”

Messi had Barca ahead on nine minutes, sweeping home a Samuel Eto’o pass with consummate ease.

And before Klinsmann’s men could recover Eto’o doubled the lead, beating the offside trap to convert Messi’s gorgeous pass.

English referee Howard Webb then booked Messi for a dive in the area and Barca manager Pepe Guardiola was sent to the stands for his complaints.

Guardiola said: “I wasn’t able to control myself. It was clear, what bothers me more is Messi’s card.”

But it seemed Webb was just about the only man who could stop Messi and he soon stabbed in Henry’s 38th-minute cross.

Barca were not finished as Messi and Eto’o combined on 43 minutes for Henry to net his 50th Champions League goal.

Bayern had keeper Hans-Jorg Butt and the bar to thank on the hour as Messi was denied a hat-trick.

The Germans almost pulled one back after 70 minutes but Barca skipper Carlos Puyol brilliantly blocked Ze Roberto’s effort.

Guardiola added: “We were very good but we’re not in the semi yet.”
