DIMITAR BERBATOV endured a miserable return to White Hart Lane.
The Manchester United striker, who left Spurs for Old Trafford in the summer, was jeered all evening.

And he had to suffer along with his team-mates as United failed to capitalise on Liverpool's draw earlier in the day.

Berbatov failed to register a decent effort all game as Harry Redknapp's Tottenham revival continued.

And Redknapp was quick to praise keeper Heurelho Gomes, who made some fine saves to keep United at bay.

Boss Redknapp said: “Gomes was excellent tonight. Tony Parks has worked very hard with him in training and I think he has brought him out of himself.

In the fourth minute he laid the ball back for Park Ji Sung to shoot but the effort was deflected over for a corner.

David Bentley then almost caught out Edwin van der Sar with an ambitious volley from wide on the left.

But the United keeper was able to clamber back before making a diving save to his left.

The home side were rocked when skipper Jonathan Woodgate was forced off after landing awkwardly.

Van der Sar was called into action again on the half-hour mark when Aaron Lennon cut inside from the left and drove towards the United goalkeeper’s near post.

Carlos Tevez bundled his way past two challenges down the inside left but his final finish was always too high.

Didier Zokora's cross found the head of Luka Modric but his diving header just flew wide.

Tom Huddlestone tried his luck with a powerful drive but it struck team-mate Roman Pavlyuchenko and Gomes got down to stop Rio Ferdinand's effort in first-half stoppage time.

Cristiano Ronaldo had the ball in the net on 54 minutes but referee Mike Dean correctly ruled it out for handball.

At the other end, Bentley saw a free-kick tipped away by Van der Sar. Ferguson brought on Ryan Giggs and Paul Scholes for the final 20 minutes, with Tevez and Darren Fletcher making way.

Giggs’ first contribution was to cross for Nemanja Vidic to force Gomes into a save with a diving header.

The veteran winger also fizzed over a cross that Ferdinand headed on to the roof of the net.

Another corner resulted in Michael Carrick’s stabbed effort getting smothered by Gomes, who also saved Park’s drive before brilliantly turning Giggs' free-kick on to the crossbar.

Modric almost snatched the points with a deflected effort that flew just over.
